[Is there a door capable of stopping Marcus?

The door is unlocked, and it swings open! But as soon as Marcus moves to step outside, it slams shut in his face with enough force to rattle against the frame.]

[... now that's weird. Let's try that again and see what happens.]

[The door slams shut again! A bit more aggressively, this time.]

[Marcus just sighs.]

All right, all right, I get the picture. You're not gonna let me go out there, are you?

[Marcus why. More stress Phantom didn't need.]

If you're trying to break it, could you do so more quietly?

I wasn't trying to break it! I was just trying to go outside! But it keeps slamming itself shut whenever I do.

[For once it is honestly not his fault!]

You could possibly ask Flat, as part of his experiments.

[That's maybe the least creepy explanation he could have gotten, though. He settles down a little bit.]

I found a key. Have you seen anything locked yet?

A key, huh? No, I haven't seen anything like that where I've checked... which was mostly just the kitchen so far. And speaking of...

[He's gonna pull out one of the knives he helped himself to and hand it to Phantom. THIS IS PROBABLY A BAD IDEA, but.]

[Phantom looks a little surprised. And then maybe... a little touched? Blink and Marcus missed it. He takes the knife and nods slightly.]

Good thinking. [That's basically a "thanks."] ...Was there any food in the kitchen? In any state?

Not a thing. Hope you weren't hungry.

[He catches that look, of course, but for the moment he's going to use his discretion and not say anything about it.

Yet. He'll keep that trump card up his sleeve in case he needs it.]

[Just for that, he's rolling his eyes and not explaining why he was asking. But he's not going to needle Marcus at this exact moment. Knife was a high support up gift.]

Then we have other rooms to explore, if you're done breaking things for a moment. I'm going back upstairs.

[Okay, it's at least in part because he is not sure he really wants to leave Phantom all on his own in what is clearly at least a somewhat haunted house, but. Phantom doesn't need to know that part, because that will just make him cranky.

[Back up to the room with the table, armed with a knife and one (1) bodyguard(????). Phantom is still a little ruffled by having to have feelings but that's not going to stop this investigation. So what do they have here?]

[The table is still where he left it! Have no worries about that. There's a few things on it, if they want to take a closer look, but it doesn't seem like there's anything that appeared after he left.]

[Sure, he'll take a look at the table. ~~Maybe he'll actually have some luck finding something this time~~ This is an excellent way to avoid thinking about feelings, yes. For once, he is actually in agreement with Phantom about something.

So, what's on this table?]

[Well, for one, there's another knife.

For another, there is a pair of metal knitting needles.

And the final thing on the table is a lighter.]

[Phantom will leave the knife to Marcus, as a treat. Raising an eyebrow at that combination though. He goes for the lighter instead! Anything of interest about it?]

[It’s a heavy, reusable metal lighter with a bluebell image etched into the metal on one side. On the other side is a snake coiled around a staff. If he shakes it, he can hear something sloshing inside of it.]

Well, the simplest way to test what the liquid inside is is by trying to light it, so. He can't resist the attempt.]

[Man, and after he just gave Phantom a knife too...!

Oh well. Time to examine this one and not think too hard about why it's just lying around randomly on a table.]

[You give a knife, you get a knife. That's knarma.

This is a much more ornate knife than the kitchen knife he gave Phantom, though! So that's a bonus. The blade is narrow but looks incredibly sharp, and the hilt is wrapped in colorful fabric, with feathers attached to it like a charm.

There's something dark dried on the tip of the blade.]
