let's see...is there anything else on the desk that he can look at? actually, does the water cup look like it might have something inside or is it too murky to tell? ]

[The water is pretty murky, so he'd have to dump it out to see.

The desk has drawers he can look through! Nothing else on top, though.]

It might take some effort, but he can probably get it to open enough to put his arm through, with enough Convincing.]

[ honestly, Julius will come back over and help Flat with the window since it's clearly giving him some trouble. will one fairly beefy boy help get this window unstuck..... ]

[He is only fairly beefy, but he is Beefy Enough. The window opens! Some rain is getting into the room now, but it's fine.]

[There is... another figure! Much smaller than the one on the desk, but this one has been painted. Being in the water has made it quite delicate, though, so be careful.

And there's also a key! It looks like a standard house key.]

[ okay, he’ll try to be gentle to get that figure and key? what does the figure look like? ]

[It's another bird! It seems like a different species from the unfinished one, from the shape of it. It's been painted in a very vibrant floral pattern, and while it's very small... it seems like it could be used as a whistle! Might be a good idea to let the clay dry out before trying.]

actually, let’s revisit the papers, including the one he pocketed. can he make out anything out of it, or is it all illegible? ]

[It's all pretty illegible! He can make out a few letters - and the occasional number - but it seems like even though this was a much less methodical attempt to obscure what was on the pages compared to the diary, it was more effective.

Is there anything else he wants to look at in the room?]

[ the desk drawers! let’s open those up and see what secrets are inside. ]

[There's more clay animal figures inside, for some reason? They all have the "L" signature, and all of the ones inside are painted. Some have colorful patterns like the whistle Flat found, and some are painted to look like real animals. Some also have findings to make them into pendants or charms, though there's no cords or chains to be found for that.

There is also a square of folded up paper.]

[ what species are the animals? are they still the same dog, cat, rabbit, bird, etc?

that said, flat will take the piece of paper and unfold it. ]

[All of those are there, in various breeds, but there's a few that are different! There's some turtles, a couple fish, deer, frogs...

And the paper is... mostly blank! The word "wait" is written in tiny print and blue ink., in the bottom right corner of the paper. There's no indication anything was written on it previously, either, like indentions in the paper or smudged lead.]

[ okay, that’s a little… ominous?

hm…how old does the paper look? does it look like it’s been folded there for a while? ]

[Besides the folds, the paper is entirely pristine, with no yellowing or other sides of age. It seems like it was placed in their moments before they arrived.]

[ in times like these, it'd be really nice if they were able to do anything other than watch, but flat's not going to stress too much about it.

is there anything else in the drawer? hell, if he takes out the drawer is there anything secret like in those cool spy movies...

and also is there anything sharp that he can use, like a box cutter? ]

[There doesn't seem to be! No cool spy stuff on this drawer, unfortunately...

But he is able to find an exacto knife on the desk, so now he's armed and can cut, just. So much paper.]

[ is there another drawer? or is it just one main drawer? ]

[There is a second, slightly larger drawer, though it seems to be empty. There does seem to be an odd-colored mark on the bottom of it, if he wants to take a closer look at it.]

[ why, yes he does! is there a secret storage here, perhaps?! ]

[The floor the drawer doesn't match up with the actual bottom of the drawer, so it's very possible!

But it also seems like someone spilled something very dark on the wood. Something that looks a bit like blood, but. Surely that's fine. It's probably just paint. Is he going to open the false bottom?]
